5 reasons why being a nanny is a great job

nanny great job

Have you ever considered the benefits of being a nanny? Whilst nannies aren’t immune from stressful, toddler tantrum-filled days, they also get to work a job that’s unlike any other, in an environment that’s vastly different from the average desk-job, and infinitely more rewarding.

Need convincing? Here’s five reasons why being a nanny is a great job:

It’s nothing like an office job

Forget sitting at a desk looking at a computer screen all day. Being a nanny involves energy, fun activities, and a lot of going outside! Every day is different and unpredictable, but that’s all part of the fun. Planning engaging activities for the children you look after means you’re out and about often. No uncomfortable business clothes for you, either; the world is your workplace, so it’s comfortable clothes all the way! As a nanny, you'll still still receive a lot of the perks of an office job (such as a good salary, opportunities for qualifications and great career progression), but in a much more exciting environment. If you want more flexibility, you can work as a part-time or after-school nanny, and have more control over your work-life balance.

You become part of a family

Nannies are in a unique position – they get to become a part of a family that’s not theirs. For many families, nannies are an integral part of their day-to-day life, with some nannies even living with the family they nanny for. Many nannies form a bond with their nanny family, especially the children that they take care of, which is truly special and fulfilling. The recognition and trust you receive as a nanny far surpasses that of an average job. Nannying involves watching children grow up and being there for their biggest milestones, from saying their first word to catching a ball for the first time. It’s a job unlike any other!

You get to be a child again

Imagine if watching Disney movies, creating silly dance routines, and building towers out of Lego were all a part of your job. For a nanny, they are! Playing with children helps them to learn and develop, as well as keeping them entertained. Whilst being a nanny involves more adult tasks, such as cooking and cleaning, they are also able to let go of the constraints of adult life for a little while, all in the name of engaging little ones.

You can be creative

You may have an array of crafty Pinterest boards that never see the light of day. As a nanny, all of those ideas you’ve been saving get put to good use! Your Pinterest browsing efforts provide fun activities for children. In a job where every day is different, you will often need to get creative when you plan activities. The challenging nature of the job means it's never boring, and your creative flair is always needed!

You are someone’s hero

When you spend so much time with children, you’ll naturally become an important figure in their lives, and form a unique bond. Nannies are masters of multi-tasking, patience, and fun. As a role model, children will copy you, follow you, and ask to do everything with you. This may seem like a lot of responsibility, but hearing “I love you” from a little one is arguably one of the best parts of nannying. Even when you feel like you’re not doing a good job, you’re a hero in their eyes!
