How much does a part time nanny cost?
With more parents working from home and requiring flexible childcare arrangements, the demand for part time nannies is on the rise. Here we look at how much a part time nanny costs, following the recent launch of our Nanny Salary Index 21/22.
How to calculate your Part Time Nanny Costs
Download our Salary Index – Find the average hourly salary in your region using our Nannytax Nanny Salary Index.
The weekly cost – Tally up how many hours you require your nanny per week then multiply this by the hourly salary in your region.
The annual cost – Multiply your weekly cost by how many weeks your nanny will work throughout the year.
The monthly cost – To calculate your monthly cost, simply divide your annual figure by 12.

London Family
Average Nanny Cost in London Per Hour: £15.31
A family require a before/after school nanny for 2 hours before school and 3 hours after, 3 days a week.
5 hours x 3 days = 15 hours
£15.31 x 15 hours = £229.65 per week
School weeks in a year = 39 weeks (please note term times may differ per school)
£229.65 x 39 weeks = £8956.35 per year
£8956.35 / 12 = £746.36 per month
Home Counties Family
Average Nanny Cost in Home Counties Per Hour: £13.63
A family require a part time nanny for both school term time and school holidays.
Term time (32 weeks): 5 hours Monday – Wednesday and 3 hours Thursday – Friday.
(5 hours x 3 days) + (3 hours x 2 days) = 21 hours
£13.63 x 21 hours = £286.23
£286.23 x 32 weeks = £9149.36
School holidays (20 weeks): 7 hours Monday – Wednesday 5 hours Thursday – Friday
(7 hours x 3 days) + (5 hours x 2 days) = 31 hours
£13.63 x 31 hours = £422.53
£422.53 x 20 weeks = £8450.60
£9149.36 + £8450.60 = £17,599.96 per year
£17,599.96 / 12 = £1466.66 per month (if you have agreed to pay your nanny in 12 equal monthly payments)
Rest of UK Family
Average Nanny Cost in the rest of the UK Per Hour: £12.52
A family require a part time nanny to work 2 days per week throughout the year. They require the nanny 10 hours for Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
10 hours x 2 days = 20 hours
20 hours x £12.52= £250.40 per week
£250.40 x 52 weeks = £13,020.80 per year
£13,020.80 / 12 = £1085.07 per month

Financial Support with your Nanny Costs
If you’re a working parent of a child under 11, or a child under 17 with a disability, you may be able to claim Tax-Free Childcare to help pay your nanny. Families can get up to £500 per child every three months, equating to £2,000 per year, and up to £4,000 per year for a disabled child. First, check you’re eligible, then set up an online childcare account for each of your children.
For every £8 you pay in, the government will pay in £2. You can pay your nanny directly from these accounts once they’re signed up to the scheme (note the nanny must be Ofsted registered).
