How have nannies salaries changed over the last 5 years?

London nanny salaries have increased by 7.64% this year, which is 0.79% less than last year’s increase. Similarly, across the rest of the UK, there has been an increase of 11% on nanny salaries, which is 1.79% less than the previous year.

The reason for this may be a result of the Cost of Living crisis with fewer families being able to give their nanny a pay rise. In one of our recent nanny employer customer surveys, 29.8% of our customers said that they had been impacted by the cost of living – 10.8% of this, said that they had been unable to give their nanny a pay rise.

In Greater London and the Home Counties, there has been an increase of 13.72% this year for nanny salaries, this is 10.93% more than the previous year. However, it must be noted that the nanny hourly rate of the Greater London & Home Counties, remains lower than the nanny hourly rate in London.

How can I save money when I hire a nanny?

Tax-free Childcare

Are you a working parent with a child under 11 or a child under 17 with a disability? You may be able to claim Tax-Free Childcare to help with the cost of a nanny, as long as your nanny is Ofsted registered. Eligible families can get up to £2,000 per year, and up to £4,000 per year if they have a child with a disability.  Find out if you are eligible for the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme.

15/30 Hours Free Childcare

Nannies are not included in the 15/30 Hours Free Childcare Scheme and we think they should be.

As nanny salaries increase across the UK, we’re working hard to have nannies included in more Government financial schemes to support with the cost of employing a nanny. This year, we’re planning to lobby the Government to get nannies included in the 15/30 hours free childcare scheme to help provide working families, who rely on a nanny for childcare, the financial support they need.
