Nannytax's Helen Harvey is Manager of the Year
The 20th Annual Payroll Conference, hosted by the Institute
of Payroll and Pensions Management (IPPM) was held at the Renaissance Hotel
in Solihull on September 15-16 . This year saw the introduction of the Institute
Awards Ceremony, with the prestigious awards presented at the gala dinner
to individuals who have excelled in their profession. The inaugural Manager
of the Year award went to Nannytax's own Helen Harvey; Head of Payroll Services
who fought off stiff competition from hundreds of much larger companies.
The 5 judges were all Honorary Fellows of the IPPM and the decisions and
results were co-ordinated by head judge Peter Blackhurst. Helen's work
with the Inland Revenue on electronic filing played an important part in the
judges' decisions. Through Helen's skill and competence Nannytax have earned
an important and unique place within the payroll industry. Nannytax' use of
electronic communications has developed over the years, and we now hold significant
knowledge that can be used by others. This expertise relies not just on the
understanding of electronic communication, but also on the way in which it
can be successfully integrated into day-to-day payroll business operations.
As the Manager of the Year award was presented to Helen, Alison Ward, chairperson
of the IPPM read out some of Helen's accomplishments:
- Helen manages an extremely complex client base of over 6,000 employees
overseeing the production of over 6,000 payslips, P14s and P35s each week/month.
- She has pioneered the implementation of two new developments in payroll;
electronic filing and tax office consolidation.
- Being well known across the Inland Revenue she has been instrumental in
highlighting issues and problems that the Revenue has been able to tackle
to improve service and procedures for those following.
- Helen has trialled both filing by Internet and EDI and in 2003 she completed
the very first and only successful electronic filing of both P14s and P35s.
Being the first down the track entailed a substantial increase in workload,
at what is already the busiest time of the year. It required a significant
personal strength of character to persevere through the myriad of problems
that arose.
- Helen's pioneering work on tax office consolidation entailed the transfer
of over 4,000 schemes into LP Lothian's, which involved significant re-referencing
and system de-bugging exercises.
- In addition to the above Helen somehow manages to find time to work with
the Revenue and DfES on the development of IR35 legislation and is a stalwart
member of the IPPM, attending all regional and national meetings as well
as being one of the first members to volunteer joining one of IPPM Pulse
Groups.
A big round of applause to Helen!
