How to register with Ofsted
Follow the Nannytax step-by-step guide to becoming an Ofsted registered nanny.Registration is quick and easy, the only thing that sometimes delays the process is the CRB check. Depending on how many different addresses the nanny has had in the last 5 years it can in some cases take several months for the CRB check to clear.
A step-by-step guide to registration:
- First nanny needs to ensure that she meets the criteria for registration. Ensure that the first aid certficate is up-to-date and that public liability insurance is in place before starting registration procedures.
- The registration process can be initiated online via the Ofsted Online Portal. There is no need for nanny to take any time off for an interview and there isn't even any need for a wet signature. In order to access the Ofsted's Online Portal, the nanny will need to create a personal Government Gateway account first, if she doesn't already have one. She may already have one if she's ever registered online for other government services. Once nanny has logged into her Gateway account she can then access the Ofsted Online Portal to begin registration.
- The Enhanced CRB check is undertaken as part of the Ofsted registration process. Verification of the CRB application can be completed by a professional known to the applicant. Please note that even if nanny already has a CRB check another one will need to be done as part of the registration process.
