The economic situation means that the number of Nannytax clients in a nanny share with another family has increased dramatically in the last 12 months. The tax and NI calculations can be a little complex in shares, but at Nannytax we have a team of nanny share specialists, and we can help you with a wide range of queries from why both employers should register separately to tax code splits.

In most cases nannies in a share work for no more than two families and cares for the children of the different families separately. However, in situations where the nanny works for three or more families, and cares for all the children wholly or mainly in the home of one of the children, she must register as a childminder.

Although the nanny is required to register as a childminder, in the eyes of HMRC she is still an employee, and so should not be expected or asked to be self-employed.
